[Nairobi Campus: 18th September 2025] The School of Business and Economics (SBE) Graduate Students’ Mentorship Group, comprising MBA Alumni and on-going MBA and PhD students, along with their patron and mentor Dr. Joanes Kyongo, presented a cheque of Ksh 606, 000 in support of the ongoing Chapel construction project.  Dr. Kyongo is the Associate Dean, School of Business and Economics.

The cheque was received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban Ayiro, at the Daystar Nairobi Campus, accompanied by the Ag. DVC-ARSA, Prof. Samuel Muriithi, the Director, Resource Mobilization, Ms. Jacqueline Mathaga, and the University Chaplain, Rev. Miano Weche.

Representing the more than 30 mentee students were Benard Masiga, Desmond Mtula, Faith Amisi Oyombe, Lavender Akinyi, Irene Amenya, Richard Mbalya, Maxwell Okeyo, Sonia Mutende, Shiyayo Makatiani, Chrispine Otieno and Johnson Ngeli.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor hailed the donation as a divine confirmation of God’s presence in Daystar University’s chapel building journey. He expressed satisfaction that he will “never walk alone,” a sentiment echoed by the delegation of SBE mentees present at the event.

“This donation is a testimony to Christ in us. The steady rise in student intake at Daystar can only be credited to God’s grace,” he remarked.

The Vice Chancellor further extended a heartfelt call to internal stakeholders, external partners, alumni, and corporate entities to join in supporting chapel project. He noted that the chapel is not just a building but a spiritual sanctuary that will serve as a cornerstone of faith and mentorship for generations of Daystar students.

Dr. Joanes Kyongo emphasized that the contribution reflects the dedication of the mentee students to both academic excellence and spiritual growth.

“Our gift toward the chapel is a testimony that we value faith as an integral part of the Daystar experience. We are sowing into a legacy that will impact generations of students.” Dr. Kyongo encouraged all to contribute generously towards the construction of the chapel by quoting from Hebrews 10:24 and using the words of Mother Teresa, “consider one another to provoke unto love and good works” and to “give but give, until it hurts.”

The Director, Resource Mobilization, Ms. Jacqueline Mathaga lauded the group for leading by example. “This generous contribution is a reminder that resource mobilization begins at home. By prioritizing the chapel, the SBE Postgraduate Mentees have set a strong precedence for other groups, schools, departments, and alumni to rally behind this sacred project,” she said.  To date, the Daystar leadership has contributed Ksh 56 million, besides Ksh. 55,000 from the students’ fraternity.

The Cheque presentation underscores the Daystar culture of giving and collaboration, ensuring that the chapel construction project becomes a reality and strengthens the university’s mission of producing servant leaders grounded in faith and excellence. The funds will go towards the construction of the University Chapel, a priority project envisioned as a spiritual hub for worship, mentorship, and student fellowship.

Speaking to the Infospot, Dr. Kyongo revealed that the SBE Postgraduate Mentorship Group has set a target to raise Ksh 1 million and has begun the second phase of fundraising.
