On 9th September  2025, Daystar University officially welcomed a new cohort of students, ushering them into their new  academic journey through a vibrant matriculation ceremony.

[Athi River: Sept 9, 2025] Daystar University officially admitted its new students during a vibrant matriculation ceremony held at the Amphitheatre, Main Campus, Athi River.

The event which was led by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro was attended by members of the University Management, Senate, and faculty members . Key attendees included the Ag. DVC ARSA Dr. Dinah Keino-Kilel, the Ag. DVC FAP Dr. Daniel Robert Aswani, the Principal Nairobi Campus Prof. Michael Bowen, the Dean of Students Rev. Mutinda Musyimi, the University Registrar Prof. Paul Mbutu, Deans of School, Heads of Departments, and staff.

The ceremony began with a spirited performance by the University Choir, followed by the academic procession from the Admissions Office to the Amphitheater, symbolizing Daystar’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence.

The matriculation ceremony marked a significant milestone by officially ushering the freshmen  to the Daystar University community.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of character, reminding students that it would sustain them throughout their academic journey.

“I would like you to feel at home as you do life in Daystar University,” he said, urging the students to remain grounded and to never forget where they have come from.

Prof. Ayiro encouraged the cohort to begin and end their academic journey with Christ, take care of themselves, and remain true to biblical teachings. He also called on them to embrace mentorship from faculty members.

“My prayer is that God will shield you and protect you as you start your academic life at Daystar University,” he said.

As the ceremony came to a close, the VC charged the new students: “I hereby admit you to pursue the discipline of your calling. May the Lord watch your coming in and going out forever.”

The Ag. DVC ARSA Dr. Dinah Keino-Kilel echoed the significance of the moment, noting that by joining university the students had crossed an important milestone in their academic journey. She urged them to remain committed to their studies, emphasizing that success requires discipline, consistency, and persistence.

Dr. Keino encouraged the students to prioritize academics, believe in themselves, stay focused in class, and cultivate strong research skills. She also cautioned them to be careful of distractions and challenges, stressing that staying focused would be key to success.

In his reflection, the University Chaplain, Rev. Miano Weche, urged students to resist their comfort zone and remain steadfast in their pursuit of purpose.

Quoting St. Augustine of Hippo, Rev. Weche said:  “On earth we are wayfarers always on the go. Keep walking, moving forward, and trying for the goal. Don’t stop on the way, or go back, or deviate from it.”

The highlight of the ceremony was the signing of the Assent Form, symbolizing the students’ formal acceptance of admission and their commitment to uphold the University’s core values.

Approximately 950 students signed the declaration, including international students from 12 countries: South Sudan, Nigeria, Namibia, Comoros, DRC, Cameroon, Tanzania, Rwanda, Chad, Burundi, Eritrea, and Angola.
